About our Piano Moving service

A piano is one of the heaviest, most fragile, and most expensive things you'll ever own — and moving one with a regular two-person crew and a furniture dolly is how pianos get destroyed. OnTime Moving Co's piano movers carry the right equipment for every kind of piano: piano boards, skid plates, four-wheel piano dollies, hump straps, and ramps for stairs and curbs.

Spinet and console uprights, full uprights, baby grands, parlor grands, and concert grands all require a different approach. Grands have the legs, lyre, and pedal assembly removed and crated separately. Uprights are tipped onto a piano board, strapped securely, and rolled to the truck. Climate-controlled transport is available on long-distance piano moves so wood and felt aren't subjected to sudden humidity changes.

Every piano move includes full-value protection and a pre-move condition inspection. If you've invested in a quality instrument, don't let your local handyman or rideshare-style 'movers' touch it.

Piano Moving FAQs

How much does it cost to move a piano?

Local piano moves typically run $300–$1,000 (upright) and $500–$1,500 (grand). Long-distance piano moves run $700–$2,500+.

Do you tune pianos after moving?

We don't tune pianos in-house, but we can recommend a local piano tuner. Most pianos need 2–4 weeks to acclimate before tuning.

Are pianos insured during the move?

Yes — every piano move includes full-value protection and a written pre-move condition inspection.

Can you move a piano up or down stairs?

Yes — our piano crews carry stair-climbing equipment and ramps for any stairs. Discuss the layout when you book.
